Thursday, May May 26th, Brookings Harbor Scholarship Foundation announced scholarship awards totaling $250,000 for 53 current and past Brookings-Harbor High School students. The awards included $90,000 in new scholarships for 19 graduating seniors of the Class of 2022, and an additional $160,000 in scholarships for 34 BHHS alumni continuing their higher education and training.
The foundation, founded in 1992, considers applications from students planning to attend two- or four-year universities, trade schools, and other professional training.
The program held in the high school cafeteria on Thursday, May 26, also included scholarships given directly by community groups and donors including Brookings-Harbor Education Association, Brookings-Harbor Lions Club, Coos-Curry Electric Charitable Foundation, the Stan-Hurst Masonic Scholarship, Indian Creek Hatchery Scholarship, HFR Hartsock Scholarship, Warren D Glaze Scholarship, Rogue Credit Union Scholarship, Garvin Masonic Scholarship, Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation, Pelican Bay Athletic Association, and Curry County Board of Realtors. These groups awarded an additional $17,200 Thursday night to Class of 2022 graduates with several awards on the list yet to be announced in the coming weeks.
Eight seniors were recognized for earning a 3.75 cumulative GPA or higher, qualifying them to attend the SOCC free of charge with a two-year tuition waiver at the Coos or Curry campus, or online.
A huge thank you to our generous community for supporting our Bruin scholars as they move on to college and career training!
The BHHS Counseling Office coordinates this annual event in partnership with BHSF, and works hard throughout the year to assist students in finding and completing scholarship applications.
